OUR NEW PROFILE

Thanks to the the partnership with UNIVASF (Universidade Federal do Vale do São Francisco), through the actions taken by the project "Identidade Cultural do Semi-árido: o impacto da uva e do vinho e do Núcleo Temático Mulheres Rendeira" and the partecipation of " Codevasf regional de Petrolina and Rede Integrada de Desenvolvimento - Ride", our head office had finally been built. Here it's our new face:

For Construction of Rendeira's Community Center

One goal is to build housing in order to have more room for new activities.. The Mayor has already donated the land. We appreciate any contribution to this project (see the photos).

Who are we?

The "Associação das Mulheres Rendeiras do Bairro José e Maria" is located in Petrolina, in the heart of the state of Pernambuco, in the North East of Brazil. Jose e Maria, the neighbourhood which hosts the Association, born 20 years ago as a shanty town to gradually evolve,thanks to the dedication and hard work of local people, to the decent and organized place which is today. In spite of this deep transformation, the healthy and rightful inclusion of every element of the community is still a big issue, that's where the necessity of creating a women only association rose.

Started in1990 from a few local women, it is today a major reference point in the community, especially for single mothers and teenagers, two of the most affected categories. The Association’s goals are to discuss human rights, racial equality, gender and to develop resources to improve quality of life, besides creating educational opportunities for women and their children.

Currently there are 35 associates.

Some already developed activities include:

. courses in needlework, embroidery, cookery and art crafts;

. discussions about human rights, women empowerment, gender equality and cultural identity.
